The Refinery is a proud member of the Ocean Wise Sustainable Seafood Program
From the vary conception of the Refinery project one thing that has been at the forefront has been our environmental impact. In addition to Refined Food, Wine & Cocktails we have taken the idea of Refined thinking to our design and operation of our Restaurant. We believe that the things we do can directly impact our micro and macro environment. Some examples of where we are dedicated to a more sustainable business are:
The dining room consists of Kirei Board tables. It is a strong, lightweight, durable, environmentally friendly substitute for wood usable in: furniture, cabinetry, casework, and interior design elements. Manufactured from reclaimed sorghum straw and no-added-formaldehyde adhesive.
The Large communal table where we encourage patrons to gather and discuss the environment is made from waste and recycled Douglas fir trees from British Columbia.
Expanko Recycled Cork-Rubber flooring is made from a combination of recycled rubber and cork. 11% of it is post-industrial waste. Using rapidly renewable building materials and products, the XCR4 contains harvested in a renewable 9-year cycle.
We have used Benjamim Moore Aura Paint witch is a Low-VOC, low-odour Aura paint. It lets you quickly move from painting your rooms to working living in them. It is safer for you and your friends, and the environment.
We have applied Symphony Wall covering in the restaurant.
Safeguarding air and water, Symphony is produced at their state-of-the-art New Jersey plant, where they make sure they meet and exceed Federal EPA requirements, the Clean Air and Water Acts, and OSHA regulations as well as the regulatory requirements of the state of New Jersey. With Eco-efficient manufacturing the printing facility is designed to recycle printing inks via a closed-loop ink system: All of the inks used are sent to a still and then recycled.
To ensure Energy conservation Symphony emission destruction process not only prevents harmful pollutants from escaping into the surrounding environment, it also yields energy as a by-product of the process. This energy reduces natural gas usage, thus significantly reducing dependence on outside energy supplies.
Using Earth-friendly products only, Symphony wall coverings comply with today's environmental issues and have eliminated all heavy metals such as lead, mercury, cadmium and chromium from our wall coverings.
Herman Miller Eames Chairs and stools are innovation in technology and use materials that result in fully authentic seat shells produced of ecologically friendly, recyclable polypropylene.
Some of the highlights include:
Reclaimed Fir beams from vintage home used in millwork.
Roxul makes energy-saving and environmentally friendly mineral wool insulation by recycling waste.
Insolated windows can save up to thirty percent of heat or air conditioning loss due to drafts or poorly insulated windows.
Recycle bins on job site used during construction to separate waste materials and recycable items including drink containers.
Recessed Potlights and accent lights are energy efficient LED. “ The LLF LR6 down-light is believed to be the longest lasting, most energy efficient down-light ever made. The new LR6 uses 85% less energy than a conventional incandescent and less than half that of a comparable fluorescent, and the LR6 contains no harmful mercury.”
Washrooms and exterior lights are Compact fluorescents.
The Bathrooms at Refinery feature sensor lights switches to minimize the waste of energy.
Toilet: Toto EcoDrake low consumption Toilets, 1.28 Gallons Per Flush
Faucet: Toto Self Generating EcoPower System with Sensor. TOTO's new technology of EcoPower generation sensor faucet: utilizes less than 0.17 gallons per cycle, while a hydro powered turbine charges the power supply during usage eliminating the need for battery replacement or consumption of external electrical power for up to 10 years.
